You can re-register your child’s birth for either of the following reasons:
- to add the biological father’s details where they were not on the original entry
- if the biological parents get married or form a civil partnership after the child’s birth

Next steps
Once the relevant form above has been completed you should make an appointment with the register office who holds the original registration.
They will make an appointment for you to attend with the completed form and relevant supporting documentation.
The re-registration will usually be completed at the time of your appointment, but there are occasions where the application form will need to be sent to the Registrar General for approval.
There is no statutory fee for a re-registration, but any new certificates showing the new information must be purchased. View the latest fees.
