Registering as a second-hand dealer

If you operate a business in Trafford where all or the majority of your goods sold are second-hand, you must apply to be registered with the Council. 

The application must be made by the owner of the business.

There is no fee required for this application. You do not need to advertise it anywhere.

When your application has been received, it will be reviewed by an officer who will contact you with the outcome of your application.

Refused applications

If your application is refused, email licensing@trafford.gov.uk or call 0161 912 4242.

You can request a hearing if registration has been refused. To do this, write to the following address:

The appropriate sub-committee will immediately hold a hearing to review the decision. We will then inform you in writing of our final decision, the reasons for it, and its effective date.

Revoked applications

We may revoke a registration at any time if we are satisfied that you have failed to comply with the conditions attached to it.

Before revoking the registration, we will write to you to explain why and invite a written response within 14 days. We will consider your response before making a final decision.
