Transfer a premises or club licence

If you’re taking over a licensed premises, you must apply to transfer the premises licence or club premises certificate.

You also need written consent from the existing licence holder.

To hold a licence, you must:

  • be 18 years or older
  • have a valid Right to Work in the UK

Right to work checks (individual applicants)

Your right to work in the UK will be checked as part of your application. This may include the licensing authority checking your immigration status with the Home Office. We may share information with the Home Office as part of this process.

You must either:

  • share your immigration status using the Home Office’s Prove your right to work to an employer online checking service (if eligible), or
  • or provide original documents listed in the Employer’s Guide to Right to Work Checks

If your check is completed online, the ‘profile’ page confirming your right to work will be copied and kept on record.

Your application is not valid until:

  • all required information and documents are provided, and
  • the application fee has been paid.

If your right to work in the UK is time-limited, you must send us your updated permit when it changes.
If you fail to do this, your licence will lapse.

If you are later found to be disqualified from holding a licence because you do not meet UK immigration requirements, your licence will lapse and must be returned to the licensing authority.

Failing to return a lapsed licence is a criminal offence.

You must upload the following documents with your application:

  • transfer consent form from the current licence holder (must contain a true signature)
  • evidence showing you have taken reasonable steps to obtain consent (if consent cannot be provided)

If you cannot provide all relevant documents when applying, your application will be rejected.
