You must have a permit from Trafford Council to place scaffolding, hoarding, a crane, or an access platform on an adopted highway.
It is an offence under the Highways Act 1980 to do so without a valid permit.
Any structure placed on the highway before a permit is issued may be subject to enforcement action.
How to apply
To apply for a scaffolding or hoarding permit, complete the application form and return it to the Streetworks team at least three working days before the date the permit is needed.

Email your completed form to traffordstreetworks@amey.co.uk
Once your application has been received, an invoice will be sent to you for payment.
Fees
A fee is charged for each application.
- £176.40 for scaffolding, access platforms or cranes
- £180.26 for hoardings
Permits are valid for between one and 28 days.
If you need the structure to remain for longer, you must submit a new application and pay another inspection fee for each additional month.
Conditions
All scaffolding, hoardings, cranes and access platforms must be erected, used and dismantled safely.
They must comply with the following standards:
- BS EN 12810
- BS EN 12811
- TG20:13
- The Work at Height Regulations 2005
You must also hold public liability insurance of at least £5 million.

After you apply
Once your application is checked, the Streetworks team will contact you if they need more information.
An invoice will then be issued for payment.
Work must not begin on site until you have received your signed permit from One Trafford.
The permit will state the location, dates and conditions for the work.
You must keep a copy of the permit on site and make it available to officers if requested.
