Transition Grant

The Transition Grant provides funding for additional staff time during a child’s induction or when a child moves within or between early education settings.

The funding helps providers gather information about the child’s needs, set up strategies and train staff so the child can settle safely and confidently.

Who the grant is for

The grant can be used for:

  • Children who have just started a new setting
  • Children moving rooms within a setting
  • Children moving from a setting to a school nursery class

The funding is available for children who attend a Trafford school nursery class or a private provider. This is regardless of where the child lives.

How much funding is available

The Transition Grant provides a fixed amount of £250.

This is intended to cover between 20 and 30 hours of additional support.

When funding is available

Funding is available from the term after a child turns nine months old. For funding purposes, terms start on:

  • 1 January
  • 1 April
  • 1 September

How to apply

To apply for the Transition Grant, you need to complete the Transition Grant application form.

You must also agree to the Transition Grant terms and conditions.

Parent and carers need to provide their consent before an application can be considered by the panel. There are two ways to do this:

  • The parent or carer completes the online consent form, or
  • The early education provider downloads the printable form for the parent or carer to sign. This can be submitted with the provider's online application.
