Reducing parental conflict

Conflict is a normal part of relationships and family life. But when arguments are frequent, intense or not resolved, they can affect children’s mental health and long-term wellbeing.

Conflict can happen between parents whether they are living together, separated, or co-parenting.

Why it matters

When children see or hear conflict that is not well managed, it can:

  • Affect their emotional wellbeing
  • Make it harder for them to do well at school
  • Harm their relationships in the future

Support available

There are resources and organisations that can help you:

  • Understand how conflict affects children
  • Learn how to manage disagreements in a healthier way
