A Special Guardianship Order (SGO) is a legal order granted by the courts. It allows you to offer a permanent home to a child without adopting and gives you shared parental responsibility.
Support for special guardians
Support for SGO carers in Trafford is provided by the SGO Support Team.
Special guardians, birth parents and children can contact the team at any time during the order. The level of support offered is assessed individually.
SGO carers can also access:
- information and advice from the SGO Support Team
- quarterly support groups to meet other carers and share experiences
- access to relevant foster carer training opportunities
