Grass cutting
Part of:
Leaves, grass and weeds
We cut the grass on all council-owned land, such as verges, parks, and public spaces.
What we do
- We cut grass every two to three weeks between late March and October, except when it's too wet to do so.
- If needed, we return with smaller machinery to cut around trees and other obstacles (such as bins and lampposts) twice a year.
What we don't do
- We don't cut grass on privately owned land, nor on properties owned by a housing association or private landlord. Please speak to them directly with questions about cutting the grass.
- We don't trim grass verge edges alongside parked cars. This is to prevent damage to the vehicle.
- Following our commitment to reduce glyphosate spraying, we don't use weed spray in our public parks, green spaces, grass verges, and cemeteries. This means grass is left to grow around them for longer.
- We blow grass cuttings that fall on public footpaths back onto the grass, but we don’t collect grass from open areas.
- We don't cut grass on areas we're keeping friendly for bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators.
