Temporary accommodation is a type of housing provided by us to people experiencing homelessness. This could be a:
- Room in a hostel or hotel or B&B
- Room in a shared house
- Flat
- House
- Room in a refuge
- Room or flat in a supported housing scheme
How to get temporary accommodation
Housing Options Service Trafford (HOST) will provide temporary accommodation for certain homeless households.
They will first complete a homelessness assessment with you. This will help them decide if you are entitled to temporary accommodation. If you are, they will arrange this for you.
You can contact HOST by calling 0161 912 2230 or emailing HOST@trafford.gov.uk.
Payment
You are responsible for paying the rent in your temporary accommodation. In some types of temporary housing, you will also be responsible for paying for the utilities. HOST will let you know if this applies to you.
If you are on a low income or receive benefits, you can apply for Housing Benefit to cover the rent. Your Housing Officer should help you with this.
Location
HOST will try to make sure the temporary accommodation is within Trafford. However, we only have a limited amount of temporary housing in the borough.
You may be offered a temporary property in another area. In this case, you will have to make your own arrangements to travel to work and/or school.
Furniture and pets
Temporary accommodation is usually furnished. Speak to HOST if you have your own furniture. In some cases, they may help arrange storage of your furniture while you are in temporary accommodation.
Pets are not usually allowed in temporary accommodation. Speak to HOST if you have a pet to see what options are available.
