The new Mayor of Trafford has urged residents to use their vote in the forthcoming General Election.
Cllr Amy Whyte, who was elected Mayor at Trafford Council’s recent annual meeting, said voting was a cornerstone of the country’s democratic process.
The Mayor, who is also a Returning Office in the General Election, said:
“There are many ways you can get involved in our democracy but the one thing that everyone can do is vote.
“Voting is pretty simple to do yet it has a massive impact on our country’s future so I would urge everyone to have their say by voting in the General Election.”
Anyone who voted in the recent Council elections will be registered to vote unless they recently moved house. Anyone who isn’t registered to vote, or is unsure, can register to vote on GOV.UK. The process takes just five minutes. The deadline to register is midnight Tuesday 18 June.
This will be the first General Election that people voting at polling stations will have to show photo ID. Check if you have accepted photo ID on GOV.UK. If you do not have relevant photo ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) on GOV.UK. The deadline for applying for a VAC is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
Your polling station will be on your polling card, which you will receive from 7 June. Some polling stations will be different from those used in the Council elections.
Residents who would prefer to use a postal vote must apply by 5pm on Wednesday 19 June. You can apply for a postal vote on GOV.UK.
