Help to shape the future of allotment spaces in Trafford

Do you own an allotment in the Trafford borough? Maybe you know someone who does, or you’re interested in owning a plot in the future? Now is your chance to have your say.

Trafford Council is developing an Allotment Strategy, to ensure that the local authority has a clear plan and vision for the future of our allotments, informed by the views of local people to help guide future decision-making.

We know that waiting lists are long for allotments in Trafford, and we want to ensure everyone has the best experience possible when applying for a plot, as well as improving things for existing plot-holders.

Take this opportunity to fill in this online survey, to give your views on the current experience of applying for an allotment and being a plot-holder. Everyone is welcome to fill out the survey, regardless of whether you’re a plot-holder, on the waiting list or just thinking about applying for an allotment in the future.

The council is also running several listening events, where residents can share their thoughts in a face-to-face session. Details of these sessions are as follows:

Tuesday 9 July – Trafford Town Hall – 6 – 7.30pm
Wednesday 10 July – Altrincham Library – 5 – 6.30pm
Tuesday 16 July – Urmston Library – 5 – 6.30pm
Thursday 18 July - Sale - Woodheys Park Pavilion - 5 - 6.30pm

James Harries, Head of Climate Change and Sustainability Service at Trafford Council, said:

“Allotments are fantastic spaces: they promote physical and mental wellbeing, and allow people to grow sustainable food sources and other plants, which is great for the environment. We want to ensure that as many people as possible in Trafford are able to access an allotment, and that we are delivering as good a service to everyone as we can.

"Help us to shape our new Allotment Strategy by giving your views and sharing your experiences of the current process, so that we can understand what is working well and what could be improved in the future. Your view is really important to us, so make sure you fill in the survey today!”

The consultation period will run from Monday 24 June – Tuesday 9 July. Following the consultation, data collected will be publicised (although individual responses will be anonymous), and Trafford Council will use this to shape its Allotment Strategy.
