Improvements at busy junction on schedule as part of Stretford transformation

Improvement works at a busy Stretford junction are on schedule to make it safer.
The improvements to the junction of Barton Road and Kingsway are part of the plan to transform the area around Stretford Mall to benefit residents and businesses.
Both sides of the Kingsway footpaths are in their final stages with most of the areas open to the public providing new footpaths, pedestrian crossing points, lighting, seating, planting, trees and sustainable drainage. The footpath next to the mall will be fully opened to the public in the next few weeks.
Rain gardens have been built as part of the work and are taking surface water from the road and footpaths and capturing it before it enters the drainage network which reduces flooding.
The Barton Road junction works will provide further improvements to footpaths, pedestrian crossing points including a new and simpler junction. These works, along with the improvements to Kingsway, are due to complete in November. The Council is working hard with all parties involved to ensure the works are completed as soon as possible. A further update on progress will be provided in mid-September.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:
“Stretford town centre is being transformed into a great place for residents, shoppers, and businesses. Kingsway already looks fabulous, the area will be safer for pedestrians and cyclists, while complementing the redevelopment of Stretford Mall.
“I know the Barton Road improvements are causing inconvenience to pedestrians and drivers and I want to thank people for their continued patience. We are doing everything we can to minimise issues, however some disruption is unavoidable, we are working to complete the scheme as soon as we can.
“Lots of exciting work is taking place in Stretford and the town centre will be amazing when the work is completed.”
The project is being managed by The LK Group and supported by civic engineers, Exterior Architecture and Simon Fenton Partnership on behalf of Trafford Council.
