Young people getting sporty at free summer holiday clubs

Eligible young people across Trafford are taking part in a fabulous free holiday club programme over this school summer holiday.

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is funded by the government and requires all local authorities to deliver a programme of inclusive activities including a hot meal over the school holidays for children aged 5 – 16 years.

The sessions, which are being provided by Trafford Council and 18 borough organisations, started on July 22 and will run until the end of August. They will include a variety of fun activities, including sports, music, arts, cooking, and other exciting opportunities to learn and develop skills like meeting new friends, alongside a nutritious meal each day.

The programme has created over 1,000 places for young people on benefit related free school meals.

Cllr Karina Carter, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Children & Young People, said:

“The HAF programme is a fantastic initiative that is providing a huge boost to thousands of young people across our borough. We are working with local schools, voluntary and community organisations and childcare providers to provide the programme. Health and wellbeing is very important to Trafford Council and we are committed to providing sporting activities for everyone.”
