Consultation launched on list of special and historic places

Trafford Council has drawn up a full list of its most special and historic places and features - and is now seeking feedback on them from residents.

The List of Local Heritage Assets, produced by the Council and Greater Manchester Archaeological Advisory Service, contains a number of interesting and quirky Trafford places of interest including:

  • The Prisoner of War Camp on Charcoal Road, Dunham Town.
  • Progress Works, Ayres Road, Old Trafford
  • Manchester Carriage and Tramway Co’s Depot, 84 Chorlton Road, Old Trafford.
  • Quaker Meeting House and Burial Ground. The family of George Bradshaw, who developed the first widely-used railway timetable guide, is interred in the burial ground.
  • Joule Memorial Worthington Park, Sale.
  • Stallion Pound at Dunham.
  • Raglan House, the home of John Brogden, who built the Manchester to Altrincham Railway.
  • Number of distinctive finger posts signs in Stretford and Urmston.

A range of sites and assets have been added to the list and these, along with the selection criteria used to assess local heritage assets, are being consulted on as part of this public consultation.

The consultation opens on 20 October and closes on 1 December.  You can give your views online.  Drop-in sessions will also be held at Trafford Town Hall from 4pm to 9pm on Wednesday 19 November and Sale Waterside from 4pm to 9pm on Monday 24 November.

Alternatively, residents can email comments to Local.List@trafford.gov.uk or post them to Heritage and Urban Design Team, Planning and Development, Trafford Council, Trafford Town Hall, Talbot Road, Stretford, M32 0TH

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:

“We would like as many residents as possible to give their views on the list.  Let us know of any sites you think should be included.  This is extremely important in order to recognise the significance of these local heritage assets for future residents and visitors to continue to enjoy.”
