Countdown to library's fabulous refurbishment begins!

An exciting project to transform Sale Library into a state-of-the-art facility is set to begin soon.

The library and foyer area on the ground floor of Sale Waterside will be given a fabulous fresh new look and exciting new features - including a permanent exhibition space for the Cosgrove Hall Films Archive.

Residents were able to share their thoughts at our public consultation event in June and feedback has played a key role in shaping the final design and décor of the new space.

To carry out these improvements, supported using public funding from the Arts Council England, Sale Library will be closed from Monday 15 September to Saturday 1 November 2025.

During this period, the building will remain accessible to customers accessing Housing Options Service Trafford and those collecting reservations or returning items. Staff working in the building and their visitors will also be able to gain access.

Also, some regular events, like Storytime, will continue at a nearby alternative location on a limited basis. Details will be available closer to the time via Trafford Libraries’ website and social media channels.

Cllr Eve Parker, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, said:

“I am delighted with the news that work is due to start on the refurbishment of this fantastic library.

“We are totally committed to our libraries in Trafford and this will be brilliant for our library users. Thank you for your patience and support as we create a vibrant, updated space for the whole community to enjoy.”
