New £400k BMX track a huge hit in Trafford

Jumping for joy! Budding BMX stars are over the moon after the official opening of a new £400k track in Trafford.

The state-of-the-art floodlit BMX facility, which is free to use, was opened this week by Trafford Council colleagues and partners on land at Cross Lane Park in Partington.

The track features several road-style, learn to ride paths with varying levels of difficulty for riders and a number of jumps to give youngsters the opportunity to practice and improve their BMX skills.

Following a public consultation, It was opened by Trafford Council as part of multi-million pound plans to redevelop Partington Sports Village and Cross Lane Park to support its sport and physical activity strategy, Trafford Moving.

The ambitious plans for Partington Sports Village also include the upgrading of Partington Leisure centre with a full multi-million pound refurbishment. A full renovation of the Cross Lane Park changing rooms has also been completed, with improved access to support walking and running in the area to follow.

Trafford Council Leader, Cllr Tom Ross and Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Cllr Eve Parker, officially opened the track alongside partners including Access Sport who will run free cycling sessions for local children. Pupils from the nearby Forest Gate Academy were given the chance to try out the track.

Mike Power, a Programme Leader from Access Sport, said:

 “The track is already proving to be extremely popular and we are delighted to be here teaching youngsters BMX skills. There are three parts to the track – the flat learn to ride section, a beginner pump track and an advanced pump track so people of all levels can build up their skills. Thank you to everyone from Trafford Council who helped in the process of providing the track.”

Cllr Eve Parker, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, said:

 “This new BMX track is absolutely fantastic and is already proving to be a massive hit with all the youngsters in the area. It’s great to see dozens of young people getting away from screens and phones to be out in the open air enjoying themselves on their bikes.

“We are committed to helping everyone enjoy healthy activities like this and to give young people the best start in life.  May I please take this opportunity to thank everyone at Trafford Council and all our partners who were involved in delivering the track in Partington. Generations of youngsters will be using this facility for many years to come.”
