Action taken by Council over dilapidated former nursing home

A Council has taken action against the owners of a derelict nursing home plagued by vandalism.

Trafford Council issued a formal notice to the owners of the Serendipity Nursing Home in Urmston to carry out repairs to stop vandals gaining entry.

The owners failed to carry out the work, so the Council has boarded the premises up and will present the owners with a bill for the work under Section 29 of the Local Government Act.

The order was issued by the Council to prevent unauthorised entry into the building on Greenfield Road and to prevent it from becoming a danger to public health.

Cllr Keleigh Glenton, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Community Safety and Civil Contingencies, said:

“I welcome the Council's decision to take action against the owners of the Serendipity Nursing Home in Urmston. The building has suffered years of deterioration and has been the subject of repeated anti-social incidents.

"We will not sit back and allow that to happen."
