More than half of the local residents who took part in the referendum voted yes in the referendum on February 12 - meaning the Warburton Neighbourhood Development Plan 2025-2039 (WNDP) will now be adopted as part of the Trafford Development Plan.

Trafford Council last night (18 March) gave final approval for the WNDP which was developed by Warburton Parish Council alongside Trafford Council. It includes a number of policies, which will guide development in the area and protect five green areas by designating them as Local Green Spaces.

The ballot paper for the referendum asked local residents to vote yes or no on the following question: Do you want Trafford Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Warburton to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

More than half of those who took part voted in favour of the Neighbourhood Plan, meaning the Council must make it part of the statutory development plan and use it when making decisions on planning applications in the area.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:

“Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the referendum.

"The Warburton Neighbourhood Development Plan is very important and will shape any future development proposals for the area. It is fantastic that residents have been given their say on this."
