Carrying out building work without planning permission or making unauthorised changes in the use of buildings or land can have a damaging effect on the local area.
Our Planning Service works to protect the local environment and quality of life for people living in the borough. This is done by enforcing planning rules where development is taking place in breach of planning control and is causing harm to an area or to people.
Our approach to Planning Compliance and Enforcement is guided by GOV.UK's enforcement and post-permission matters.
Enforcement action is discretionary and we need to act proportionately in responding to suspected breaches of planning control.
