There is a charge for all new, additional, and replacement bins. This is to cover delivery and administration costs.
The bin remains the property of the Council and should remain at the home for which it has been purchased.
We may use reconditioned bins to fulfil your order.
Charges
Charges for a new bin are as follows:
- Full set of bins (1 x grey, 1 x black, 1 x blue, 1 x silver kitchen caddy and either 1 x green bin or 1 x kerbside caddy for food waste): £139.65
- Singular replacement wheelie bin (up to 240 ltr): £40.69
- Singular replacement wheelie bin for householders receiving Council Tax Benefit (excluding Single Persons Reductions) or Housing Benefit (up to 240 ltr): £16.49
You will need to provide proof of Benefit for a reduced fee.
There is no charge for green outside food waste caddies and silver kitchen caddies.
Requests for additional grey bin capacity for large families will be assessed on an individual basis in line with Council policy. In instances where a replacement grey bin has been ordered and a bin of that type is found to be on site at the time of delivery of the new bin, the new bin will not be left. The payment will not be refunded.
Payment
Payment can be made by credit or debit card only. Payment is made to Amey, not Trafford Council, with Amey LG appearing on your bank statement.
Cash and cheques are not accepted as payment except in exceptional circumstances when a resident genuinely does not have access to a credit or debit card.
Delivery
You don't need to be present when we deliver your bin, and a signature is not required. We will leave a calling card at your home to confirm delivery.
Residents are responsible for ensuring we have access to the front of the property for delivery. Gates should be left unlocked and dogs kept inside.
We will deliver your bin on the scheduled delivery date, except in circumstances outside our control. When we can't deliver a bin, we will try again as soon as it is operationally possible.
If you are requesting a bin to be exchanged, your old bin must be put out before 6:30am on the delivery date, or we will not be able to deliver your new one.
Moving into a new home
If you move into a new property with no bins, you still need to pay the charge. If the property is a new build, you have to pay for a full set of recycling and refuse bins.
Please wait until you've moved before ordering new bins. Leave the bins at your old property for the new occupants and do not take them with you.
What to do with waste in the meantime
While you wait for your delivery, please store waste on your property. Once your new bin arrives, you can place the waste in it for collection.
We do not collect loose bags of waste, so please don't leave them out. Alternatively, you can take your waste to one of our household waste recycling centres. Find a recycling centre.
Refunds
You can cancel your order up to 11:59pm two working days before the scheduled delivery date. For example, if the delivery is scheduled for a Wednesday, you can cancel up to midnight on Monday. The payment will be refunded in full.
After this point, cancellations and refunds are no longer permitted.
Damaged bins
All replacement bins will be charged for, whether lost, stolen, or damaged. If your bin is damaged by our collection crew, we will post a card through your letterbox and deliver a new bin free of charge.
Misusing your bin
Bins are for specific types of waste. Find out what waste goes in what bins.
If a bin is misused or contaminated, the Council reserves the right to remove it. You will then have to pay an administration and delivery charge for a replacement.
Not paying for a council bin
We will not collect bags of waste outside your home. All waste should be put in a bin.
If you don't want to pay for a bin, you can dispose of your waste at your local household waste recycling centre. Find a recycling centre.
Wheelie bins are available for delivery only. You cannot avoid paying this fee by collecting your bin from the depot. This is for operational and health and safety reasons.
Buying your bin from somewhere else
You can purchase your own bin, but it must be compatible with our vehicles and meet our requirements in terms of size and colour. The bin must also meet the British Standard BS EN840.
We will only empty the following colour bins if they contain the right type of waste:
- 140-litre grey bin for non-recyclable waste
- 240-litre black bin for mixed recyclables (glass, cans and plastic bottles)
- 240-litre blue bin for paper and card
- 240-litre green bin for food and garden waste
