St Teresa's RC Primary School closure

A period of consultation took place from 19 May to 29 June 2026 on a proposal to close St Teresa’s RC Primary School on 31 August 2027.

You can read more in the consultation information.

Who took part in the consultation?

The consultation was promoted to key stakeholders including:

  • Parents
  • Staff
  • Governors
  • Other schools in Trafford
  • Neighbouring local authorities
  • Various Dioceses who operate schools in Trafford
  • The Department for Education
  • Trade unions

How were responses gathered?

An online portal was used to gather responses, and individual stakeholder briefing sessions were delivered in person to governors, staff and parents.

This approach made sure all parties were able to engage with the consultation and share their views.

How many responses did we receive?

We received a total of 379 responses through the consultation hub from a range of stakeholders, plus additional data and evidence.

Next steps

We have taken time over the summer to consider all the matters raised and provide a detailed response. You can read the full consultation response report online.

After careful consideration, we have decided to proceed to the next stage of the legal process.

We have published a statutory notice and full proposal. This commences a four-week period of representation where any person may object to or comment on the proposal. The period of representation ends at midnight on 5 October 2026.

As well as sharing the full proposal with the people listed above who took part in the consultation, we have also sent a copy of the proposal to:

  • The Secretary of State
  • Diocesan Boards of Education of Church of England Dioceses schools in our area
  • Bishop of Roman Catholic Dioceses schools in our area

Final decision

The final decision will be taken by Trafford Executive on 19 October 2026. The decision makers will be provided with the following information:

  • Executive report
  • Original consultation information
  • Individual responses received through the consultation period
  • Consultation response report
  • Full proposal
  • Any comments or objections received during the period of representation
  • Equality impact assessment

If the final decision is made to close the school, we will provide as much support as possible to everyone impacted.
