Secondary school admission appeals

If your application to a school is refused, you have the right to appeal this decision.

The appeal will be heard by an independent appeal panel. This is the only panel able to consider additional information and evidence about your family circumstances.

Before making an appeal

We recommend you find out why your child didn't get a place at the school before you make an appeal. You can find this answer in the school’s admission arrangements on their website.

We also strongly advise you accept an offer of a secondary school place before you appeal, so your child can still start the year should your appeal not be successful.

If you accept an offer, you can still join a waiting list for another school or continue to submit an appeal.

If you decline the place you have been offered, and your appeals are unsuccessful, we can only offer you a place at a school that is undersubscribed. These are currently Broadoak School, Lostock High School and Wellacre Academy.
