SEND secondary admissions
Children with an EHC plan
If your child already has an education, health, and care (EHC) plan with a named provision, there is a different process for transferring to secondary school.
Ask your SENAS practitioner or your SENCO for more information about this.
Children without an EHC plan
If your child has additional needs but does not have an EHC plan, you must apply to us for your mainstream school place. This includes children receiving SEN Support and those going through the EHC needs assessment process.
It may be useful to visit your local mainstream schools to consider which would best meet your child’s needs. Each school has a SEND report on its website to help with your decision.
All applications for mainstream schools should be made through the Trafford application portal by the deadline of 31 October 2025. Apply online now.
Outcome
You will be advised of the outcome on 2 March 2026. If a different provision has since been named on your child’s EHC plan, you can decline this offer.
There is no guarantee you will get a place at your preferred school. Social and medical needs cannot be taken into consideration unless they are part of the school’s oversubscription criteria.
