Road works timeline

Part of: Cross Street junction works in Sale

Contents

Some short-term disruption is unavoidable. The long-term outcome will be a safer, more reliable, and people-friendly junction for Sale. It will make it easier to use the junction either on the road or by foot.

How long the work will take

Works are expected to last up to 12 weeks starting on 7 April. This timeline is strictly dictated by the scale of the essential upgrades required on the A56.

The primary driver for this duration is the necessity of maintaining a safe working environment. Our engineering teams need specific lane configurations to operate heavy machinery safely.

This is due to:

  • the high volume of traffic,

  • the physical constraints of the A56.

We have optimised the schedule. This 12-week window is the absolute minimum needed to complete the works permanently.

It also prevents the need for repeated, smaller interventions in the future.

Changes during the works

Access to properties/businesses will be prioritised and maintained wherever possible.

To allow us to finish these road works as soon as possible, we will be taking a lane away from the road on Cross Street A56 for several weeks. This will keep our colleagues and the travelling public safe whilst the works are carried out.

Atkinson Road will be one way only at the junction with Cross Street A56. Signed diversion routes will direct traffic.
