What schools can do to make the school run safer
There are a number of things schools can do to make the school run safer.
Sign up to Modeshift stars
Modeshift stars is a national school awards scheme established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling and walking. It provides free resources about sustainable travel journeys.
Sign up to WOW
The Walk to School Challenge from Living Streets. WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker.
There are limited free places for primary schools across Greater Manchester. To register, email: Paul.OSullivan@livingstreets.org.uk.
Set up a school street
A school street is a road outside a school with a temporary restriction on motor traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times. This allows parents and children to walk or cycle safely. These changes make a real difference to the congestion around schools, making the school run less stressful and far safer for everyone.
For School Streets to work, they need the support of the wider school family as they require volunteers for them to succeed. We will provide any training and equipment required.
