About the competition
Trafford Council is inviting residents, staff and local schools to submit photographs for a chance to be featured on the Trafford Council website homepage.
Who can enter
The competition is open to:
- Trafford residents
- Trafford Council staff
- Pupils attending schools in Trafford
Age categories
Entries are accepted in two categories:
- Open category (aged 18 and over)
- Under 18 category
Entrants under 18
Anyone under 18 must not submit entries themselves.
Entries must be submitted by:
- A parent or guardian, or
- A school or teacher on their behalf
The person submitting the entry must:
- Confirm they have permission from the entrant’s parent or guardian
- Agree to these terms on their behalf
All entries from people under 18 will be judged within the under 18 category.
How to enter
Entries must be submitted using the online form.
You must provide:
- Name (of the person submitting the entry)
- Age
- Contact details
- Address
- A short description of where the photo was taken
You can submit up to three photos per person.
Entry requirements
Photos must:
- Be taken within the Trafford borough
- Be your own original work
- Be in landscape format (16:9)
- Be at least 1920px wide
- Be in JPEG or PNG format
- Be under 10MB in size
Photos must not:
- Be AI-generated
- Include filters, text, logos or watermarks
- Be taken in restricted areas or where photography is prohibited
- Involve trespassing or unlawful activity
If your photo includes identifiable people:
- You must have their permission to use the image
- If the photo includes anyone under 18, you must have consent from their parent or guardian
Themes
Photos should reflect life in Trafford. This may include:
- Landmarks and heritage
- Parks and green spaces
- Community life and events
- Nature and wildlife
- Everyday places and local scenes
Competition dates
Opening date: 2 June 2026
Closing date: 28 June 2026
Entries received after the closing date will not be considered.
Judging and selection
Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges, which includes:
- Councillor Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council
- Chris Boyes, President of Sale Photographic Society
- Steve Longbottom, Trafford-based photographer
- Lynda Sterling, Creative Director, OT Creative Spaces
Entries will be assessed based on:
- Creativity
- Composition
- How well the image reflects Trafford
The decision of the judges is final.
Use of your photos
By entering the competition, you confirm that:
- You own the copyright to your photo
- Your photo does not infringe the rights of any third party
You grant Trafford Council a:
- Non-exclusive
- Royalty-free
- Perpetual licence
to use, reproduce, edit and publish your photo across:
- The Trafford Council website
- Social media channels
- Marketing and communications materials
Photos used on the homepage will not include a photographer credit. The Council may credit photographers in other contexts where appropriate.
Prizes
There is no cash prize.
Winning entries will be featured on the Trafford Council website.
Disqualification
Trafford Council reserves the right to:
- Disqualify any entry that does not meet these terms
- Remove any content considered inappropriate, offensive or unlawful
Liability
Trafford Council accepts no responsibility for:
- Lost, delayed or incomplete entries
- Technical issues affecting submission
- Indemnity
Entrants agree to indemnify the Council against any third-party claims, damages or liabilities arising from their entry, including breaches of copyright or privacy.
By entering, you confirm that the work is your own and that you have obtained all necessary permissions from any subjects featured in the image.
Data protection
Your personal data will be used to:
- Administer the competition
- Contact you if your entry is shortlisted or selected

General
Entry into the competition does not guarantee that your photo will be used.
Trafford Council may update these terms at any time.
The Council reserves the right to cancel the competition or amend these terms at any time without prior notice. The Council also reserves the right not to select a winner or publish any image if entries do not meet the required aesthetic or technical standards.
