Unitary Development Plan
The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) is a statutory document that plays a major role in shaping the future of the Borough. It shows what land in the Borough can be developed and for what purpose. The Revised Trafford UDP was adopted in June 2006.
Under the new planning system, the UDP is a 'saved plan' which means it is a Local Plan document with the Local Plan framework. A copy of the Plan can be inspected in Libraries across the Borough during normal opening hours, or alternatively can be accessed online using the Plan.
The adoption of the Trafford Local Plan: Core Strategy on 26th January 2012, the Greater Manchester Joint Waste Plan on 1st April 2012 and the Greater Manchester Joint Minerals Plan on 26th April 2013, means that a number of UDP Policies are no longer operational as they have been superseded. The rest of the UDP Policies will be replaced by the emerging Trafford Local Plan: Land Allocations and Altrincham Town Centre Business Neighbourhood Plan in due course. Until that time, the UDP together with the Trafford Local Plan: Core Strategy, the Greater Manchester Joint Waste Plan and the Greater Manchester Joint Minerals Plan will comprise the adopted statutory documents for making planning decisions in Trafford.
The Local Plan comes with a Policies Map that shows which Policies apply to certain areas of Trafford, for example the Green Belt, and where sites have been allocated for specific uses such as residential or employment uses. Before using the Plan it is recommended that you read the user guide. The online Policies Map is also subject to the following copyright notice.
Purchasing a copy of the Revised UDP
You can request to buy a printed copy of the UDP and Policies Map from the Strategic Planning team. A printed copy of the UDP text only is available for £25, if you wish to purchase a printed copy of the UDP including the Policies map this will cost £45. Cheques should be made payable to Trafford Council. Copies can also be purchased over the counter at Trafford Town Hall.
The adoption of the Greater Manchester Joint Waste and Minerals Plans required amendments to be made to the adopted UDP Policies Map. These changes can be viewed via the GM Waste Plan and GM Minerals Plan websites. Copies are also available for inspection at Libraries across the Borough during normal opening hours.
