Ways to receive your personal budget

Part of: Personal budgets

Once your personal budget is confirmed, you can choose how you want to receive it.

Council-arranged support (commissioned services)

We arrange and pay for your care directly with approved care providers. You do not manage the money; we do this for you.

We will:

  • Help you choose suitable support services
  • Arrange and manage contracts
  • Pay care providers on your behalf

Examples include:

  • Home care support
  • Day services or community support
  • Residential or nursing care arranged by the Council (if assessed as needed)
  • Equipment or services arranged in your care plan

Find out more about Council-arranged support.

Direct Payment

You receive the money and arrange your own care and support.

You may choose to ask for help managing the payment, for example:

  • An accountancy service to handle payroll and records
  • A third-party organisation to manage the account for you
  • A suitable person (family/carer) to manage payments on your behalf

Read more about direct payments.

If you cannot safely manage the account without help and no informal support is available, the Council may provide extra funding to pay for this type of support. To find out more, email directpayments@trafford.gov.uk or call 0161 912 2701.

Combination of services

You can mix these options, for example, managing some care yourself and having the Council manage the rest. You may also want to combine council-arranged support with direct payments.
