Armed Forces Covenant
The Trafford Armed Forces Covenant is dedicated to supporting and honouring the Armed Forces community within Trafford. This includes all active and ex-service personnel, their families, and the bereaved.
The key principles of the covenant are that:
- No member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage when accessing local services; and
- In some circumstances, special treatment may be appropriate, especially for the injured and bereaved
For the Armed Forces community and their families, the Covenant can help with the integration back into civilian life, housing, employment, and health.
The Trafford Armed Forces Covenant also allows the Council to build upon the existing good work and initiatives from the Greater Manchester Armed Forces Covenant.
Armed Forces Covenant Duty
The Covenant Duty is a statutory requirement for bodies in healthcare, housing, and education to consider the Armed Forces Covenant.
They must consciously apply the Covenant to policies and decisions to improve public service access for the Armed Forces Community.
Covenant Gold Award
In 2024, we were delighted to be granted our second Gold award for our Armed Forces Covenant. The award is recognition of the work we do to support the Armed Forces Community both in Trafford and across Greater Manchester.
A regional selection board chaired by senior military officers considered each nomination against the criteria; we were told we had been successful on our first attempt at Gold in September 2019 and again in November 2024.
