Freedom of information requests (FOI)

You have the right to request information from Trafford Council under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI).

This law lets you ask for any recorded information we hold, unless an exemption applies.

We aim to make as much information as possible available without you having to make a formal FOI request.

Step by step navigation

  1. Check if the information is already available

Find out if the information you need is already published in our scheme or guide, so you don’t need to make a request.

  2. Register of FOI responses

Lists of our responses to previous FOI requests, grouped by category

  3. Make a request

The easiest way to make a request is using our online form. You can also email or write to us if needed.

  4. Fees

You will not usually be charged for making an FOI request, but we may charge for large or complex requests.

  5. Other types of request

Environmental and personal information are handled under different rules.

  6. What happens next

We will confirm if we hold the information and provide it unless a legal reason prevents us from doing so.

  7. Contact us or challenge a response

Contact us if you need help with a request, or want to request an internal review.
