Our legal duties
If you're eligible and legally homeless, we'll take reasonable steps to help you find a new home that’s available for at least six months. This duty also lasts for up to 56 days.
You are legally homeless if:
- You have no property in the UK or elsewhere that you can legally occupy
- You have a home but cannot access it
- You are unable to remain in your current home due to the risk of abuse, violence, harassment, or serious threats of violence
- You are unable to remain in your current home because of extreme overcrowding, very poor conditions/state of repair, serious financial hardship, or other special reasons
- You have a movable home, such as a boat or caravan, and there is nowhere it can be lawfully placed
