Apply for social housing

Part of: Social housing

Contents

You can apply to join Trafford's housing register if you are:

  • Living in the UK
  • At least 16 years old (although being under 18 means it's unlikely you'll be offered a property)

You may not be able to join the register if you are:

  • Subject to immigration control
  • Not considered habitually resident within the Common Travel Area (UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands)

How to apply

Before you can apply for social housing, you must register with Trafford HomeChoice. Once you have registered, you can express an interest in the properties they advertise.

Register with Trafford HomeChoice

If you can’t use the online service, you can contact Trafford HomeChoice by calling 0161 912 5513 or sending an email to homechoice@trafford.gov.uk

Next steps

Once you’ve applied, Trafford HomeChoice will process your application and get back to you by email within five working days. If you asked for contact by post, it may take a bit longer.

Trafford HomeChoice may ask for documents to support your application. They cannot process your application until all required evidence has been provided.

After your application is reviewed, your housing need will be assessed, and you'll be placed in one of five priority bands based on your situation. You can find more information on the priority bands in our allocations policy.

Trafford HomeChoice will notify you of the decision, and you’ll then be able to bid on available properties through their website.
