Up to 100 new electric vehicle charging points to be installed on Trafford streets

Trafford residents will soon have more places to charge electric vehicles on streets close to where they live.

Up to 100 new charging points are being installed by Amey in a government-funded collaboration with Trafford Council, allowing more people in the borough to make the switch to EVs.

Work will start soon and the first locations will be Hermitage Road, Hale; Elm Road, Altrincham; Buxton Crescent, Sale; Taylors Road, Stretford; and Knowsley Avenue, Urmston.

The partnership will see Amey install, maintain, and operate public EV charge points across Trafford, adding to existing chargers already in place in the borough.

The new network will provide affordable, accessible and easy-to-use charge points, mainly in residential areas where people have limited access to off-street parking, allowing charging close to home and while on the move.

This rollout strengthens Amey’s commitment to decarbonisation with 100 per cent zero carbon energy used at its EV charging points.

Account Director at Amey, Anna Gornall, said:

“We’re excited to launch our first EV charge points in Trafford, working in partnership with Trafford Council to make electric vehicle charging more accessible to local communities.

“As the UK’s leading provider of energy transition and decarbonisation solutions, we are well placed to use our existing expertise and resource to support Trafford Council in delivering a holistic public EV charging network for local communities.

“We’re helping residents make the switch, so everyone can plug in and power a greener Trafford.”

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:

“We are delighted to be working with Amey on this project to bring more and better charging options to the people of Trafford. This is an extension to the current EV charging options in the borough and is great news for committed EV owners and those who are thinking about going electric.”

The rollout is backed by the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements Fund and focuses on delivering convenient, public EV infrastructure in residential areas, particularly for those who park on the street.

To ensure chargers are installed in the right locations, Amey is combining funding, local knowledge, and delivery expertise. Charging costs will vary by location and charge point type, offering flexibility to suit different user needs.
