Try not drive to Sale Water Park at peak times on hot days, says Council

Trafford Council is calling upon visitors to Sale Water Park to try walking, wheeling, cycling or taking public transport as the popular beauty spot is becoming overwhelmed at busy times.

The area has seen traffic jams, inconsiderate parking and routes blocked for emergency vehicles as people flock to the attraction.

The renowned spot is open from dawn till dusk, has a lake, woodland, meadows, the River Mersey, cafe, restaurant and water sports centre with boating and jet skis.

But its popularity means too many vehicles are arriving on summer days leaving fun seekers in long queues and struggling to find space to park.

In a separate issue, many visitors are not putting their rubbish in bins, or taking it home if bins are full, meaning the landscape can end up strewn with rubbish – and risking harm to wildlife as well as causing an eyesore.

The Council wants people to help ease the issues by walking, wheeling, cycling or taking public transport. The nearest Metrolink stop is Sale Water Park.

Anyone who does drive to the park should be mindful of their impact on nearby residents and make sure they comply with parking restrictions so that they do not block access routes for emergency services or service vehicles. There are a number of accessible parking bays across the site for blue badge holders only.

Early mornings before 9am or evenings are less busy, too, for people who want to avoid the crowds at peak times.

Cllr Barry Winstanley,Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Climate Change said:

“Sale Water Park is a fantastic place to be on a summer’s day but the problem we have is that too many people want to enjoy it, bringing their cars along.

“There simply isn’t room for so many vehicles and we’re seeing that not everyone parks considerately. We would love more people to choose a more sustainable way of getting to and from the park, and make sure they do not leave litter.”
