The search is on for a Project Director to work with Chair Designate Lord Sebastian Coe to drive forward plans for the Old Trafford Regeneration area.
The successful candidate will lead delivery of the proposed new Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) alongside Lord Coe.
The proposed new statutory body, set up by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and Trafford Council, is set to attract public and private sector investment to accelerate transformational regeneration, creating a world-class, sports-led visitor destination, rich in culture and entertainment.
Ambitions are to make Old Trafford one of the best places in the UK to live, work, and visit, with up to15,000 new homes, including affordable homes, as well as employment opportunities.
Trafford Council and Greater Manchester Combined Authority are now advertising the pivotal role after Lord Coe was announced as Chair Designate last month.
The Project Director will be responsible for delivering the strategic vision for Old Trafford Regeneration, developing and implementing a business plan to make it happen.
They will work alongside local authority staff to progress the transformation, and in partnership with strategic landowners and developers, such as Manchester United.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves called Old Trafford Regeneration a “shining example” of the Government’s plans to promote economic growth and Andy Burnham dubbed the scheme “the biggest opportunity for urban regeneration this country has seen since London 2012.”
The MDC will sit within the Western Gateway Mayoral Development Zone, a significant initiative in Greater Manchester aimed at fostering economic growth and innovation, across Salford into north Trafford.
Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said:
“Greater Manchester is the UK’s growth success story. We are the UK’s fastest growing economy, and we have attracted more foreign direct investment than any other city region – and now we are ready to take it to the next level.
“The Old Trafford Regeneration project represents the biggest opportunity for urban regeneration this country has seen since London 2012.
“The new Mayoral Development Corporation, with Lord Coe as Chair designate, will be the driving force behind the wider regeneration proposals.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leave a lasting legacy and deliver a project that will benefit not just Trafford and Greater Manchester but the whole of the UK.”
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:
“For this scheme to be successful we need the best possible people leading it and we’re excited to see who will rise to the challenge!
“The creation of the MDC ties in with Trafford Council’s priority of fostering a thriving economy and homes for all. We can’t wait to see this ambitious vision for the future of this iconic and internationally important area take shape and make a real difference for the people who live, work and visit Old Trafford.”
