Arts, health, action! – A creative prescription for wellbeing in Trafford

Trafford Council and its partners are bringing together local and Greater Manchester partners for Arts, Health, Action! A Creative Prescription for Wellbeing in Trafford on Tuesday 25 November at Waterside, Sale.

The event will explore how creativity can be used to improve health and wellbeing — from reducing loneliness and building confidence to helping people recover and stay connected.

It’s about sharing what’s already working in Trafford and across the region, and looking at how creative ideas can become a bigger part of how we support people’s health in the future.

The Council is working jointly with Trafford Local Care Organisation (TLCO) and other partners to stage this prestigious and exciting event.

Speakers include Helen Gollins, Trafford’s Director of Public Health; Julie McCarthy, NHS Greater Manchester’s Strategic Lead for Creative Health; Dr Elaine Ryan-McNeill from the National Centre for Creative Health and Liverpool John Moores University; and Maria Bota, Trafford’s Director of Cultural Transformation.

They’ll be joined by local creative and community organisations including BreathChamps, Collaborative Women, English National Opera, Gorse Hill Studios, More Than A Label, Seed Studios, String of Hearts, Trafford Rape Crisis, Venture Arts, WETA, and others.

The day will feature practical workshops, inspiring case studies, and opportunities to share ideas, build connections and plan next steps.

Councillor Jane Slater, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Creativity is a powerful way of improving people’s lives. We’ve already seen how creative projects can boost confidence, improve mental health and help people feel part of their community. This event will help us build on that and make sure creativity is part of how we support health and wellbeing across Trafford.”

Insights and ideas from the event will help shape Trafford’s plans for creative health and wellbeing, supporting the borough’s ambition to build healthier, more connected communities.
