Fresh apple juice for all at Moor Nook Park festival

The Friends of Moor Nook Park are calling on local people not to waste a single apple in Sale and bring the fruit from their garden trees to a fun, community event.

The eighth Moor Nook Apple Festival at Sale Moor Community Centre on Saturday 27 September, from 12pm to 3pm, will involve fresh apple pressing – and free juice for all!

Families are urged to bring a picnic as well as their apples to Moor Nook Park, which is owned and managed by Trafford Council via its One Trafford Partnership, and has its own, fledgling community orchard set to offer a delicious autumn harvest for residents to share, for decades to come.

Park volunteers are organising free entertainments and activities from Professor Pumpernickel, Love to Craft Mcr and Willow Goat Crafts and have launched a crowdfunding page to help cover the £500 cost of the event.

Rachel Evans, Chair of the Friends of Moor Nook Park said:

“All apples are acceptable as long as they are not bruised. We have our own orchard, but we want everyone to come along with their families and neighbours, and the fruit from the trees in their gardens – we don’t want a single apple in Sale to go to waste!

“Eating a crisp, juicy apple straight from your own tree is a treat to be savoured and that’s what our festival is all about. There’ll be a chance to try different varieties of apples – and edible apple ‘leather’ – at our tasting stall and swap cooking tips. Plus, we’ll be using our press to make delicious fresh apple juice for everyone.”

The community orchard of 21 trees, including 14 apple trees of local and heritage varieties, was planted in 2018 with help from charity The Orchard Project, Greggs environment fund and community donations.
