A popular children's charity has been presented with much-needed new computers - thanks to Trafford Council!
Little Green Sock, a children’s charity based in a warehouse in Trafford Park, were given the four desktop computers by the Council's Digital Inclusion and Partnership Manager Hazel Kindley.
They were donated to the charity, which provides pre-loved and new children's essentials to struggling families, as part of the Council's highly successful digital inclusion campaign Trafford Tech4All. All four computers were given to Trafford Council by The Christie.
Trafford Council knows how important charities and community groups are in supporting local people, reducing inequality and helping those most at risk of being left behind digitally. By donating recycled desktop computers, the Council is helping organisations like Little Green Sock to do more and deliver essential services. The Tech4All Community Desktop Programme also supports a more sustainable approach to technology by reusing devices, cutting e-waste and keeping useful equipment out of landfill.
Little Green Sock’s Founder and CEO Catherine D'Albertanson is delighted with the donation.
She said:
"We’re hugely grateful for the donation of computers which will go a long way to help us manage the growing number of referrals we are receiving, ultimately helping us support more children with the essentials they need to thrive.”
In 2024, Trafford Council launched Trafford Tech4All to provide hundreds of residents and schoolchildren with laptops, free data, affordable broadband and digital skills training. Teaming up with partners, the Council and tech-refurb partner Community Computers has handed thousands of laptops to low-income families at pop-up shops across the borough.
The retired devices, made available by a generous donation from partners, were distributed to those in need at the cut-price cost of £60. We have also handed over hundreds of devices to schoolchildren from other schools who are unable to get online to complete their school studies. We also provide free devices to those residents in most need, allocated through council services like homelessness, domestic abuse and adult social care.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:
“The Council's Trafford Tech4All has been massively successful, and I am delighted we are able to provide these much-needed computers for Little Green Sock. Thank you so much to The Christie for donating them to the Council for our Trafford Tech4All scheme.
"Having access to digital is so important for the charity as it deals with hundreds of referrals every month from families. The digital inclusion scheme helps bridge the gap between those who have and those who do not have suitable access to devices.”
Charities and community organisations across Trafford are encouraged to apply for a free desktop by emailing digitaltrafford@trafford.gov.uk. Devices are limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis, helping more organisations reach and support people in need.
