Trafford Council’s Planning and Development Service is in the running for two national awards following success in North West honours.
The department scooped the title of Local Planning Authority of the Year as well as the award for Best Plan at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) North West Awards for Planning Excellence.
Now the delighted team is through to the national finals, to be held in London on Thursday 27 November.
Awards judges praised the level of innovation going on at Trafford, and the Council’s ‘happy and busy’ team who pull together to get things done.
They said the service was good example for other local councils, with strong inhouse training and mentoring methods.
The Best Plan award is for the Trafford Design Code, a set of guidelines and standards for the design of new buildings and developments in Trafford.
The judges were impressed by the ambition, innovation, and collaborative effort behind the document, which reflected the Council’s commitment to high-quality, inclusive, and accessible planning.
The service includes Major Planning Projects, two Area Development Management teams, enforcement and trees, spatial data, validation and planning business support.
A spokesperson for the Council said:
“We are delighted to see Trafford represented at the national finals of these prestigious awards. The work of the planning team is crucial to the success of all of the Council’s priorities including fostering a thriving economy, homes for all, addressing climate change and supporting sport and culture.”
