Consultation goes live on Trafford’s Local Plan

The survey is live for six weeks and asks people for their comments on the Local Plan. The consultation documents are available to view on the Trafford Council website and at Council offices and libraries across the borough. Responses can also be submitted online via Trafford Council’s Citizen Space consultation portal.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive member for Economy and Regeneration, said:

“Our plan is crucial in describing how land, housing and infrastructure will be managed across Trafford. It has been developed after a lot of consultation with partners, residents, communities and businesses to make sure it is a robust document that serves the people of Trafford.
 

“It’s important we now have a final consultation before the plan is submitted for independent examination.” 

The Trafford Local Plan outlines proposed land allocations, designations, planning policies and development management policies that will guide development across the borough over the next 15 years.

The plan includes policies and proposals covering housing, employment land, town centres, regeneration areas, environmental protection and climate resilience. It will sit alongside the Places for Everyone plan, which was adopted in 2024.

Places for Everyone requires Trafford to plan for 19,077 new homes, 469,000 square metres of industrial and warehousing floorspace, and 157,000 square metres of office floorspace.

In addition to the Davenport Green and New Carrington allocations identified in Places for Everyone, the Trafford Local Plan proposes more than 20 sites for residential, employment and other forms of development. These include Trafford Waters, Pomona and the former Stretford Mall site.

The consultation began on Thursday 6 August and runs until 18 September 2026.
