School applications window is now open for parents

Parents of children in Trafford who are set to start primary or secondary school next year can now make their application.

The window for schools applications opened on Monday and continues until 31 October for secondary school admission. Parents applying to a primary school have until 15 January 2026.

Trafford parents must apply to Trafford Council for their child’s school place.

Cllr Karina Carter, Executive member for Babies, Children and Young People, said:

“Our priority is the best start for our children and young people – and our fantastic schools, teachers and staff are a major part of that.

“We have enough school places for everyone in Trafford but it’s vital that parents submit their application on time to maximise their chances of getting their child into their school of choice.”

As school places in Sale and Altrincham can be oversubscribed, tailored advice has been written. This guidance is being sent out to the parents in Sale and Altrincham and are also posted online on the Council’s secondary schools admission webpage.

The guidance details how parents can maximise their children’s chances of receiving a place at a nearby school, as well as how to apply for a grammar school or Faith school. The guidance also contains a phone number to ring if parents do not have access to the internet.

For more details about the primary and secondary school applications, and to apply, please visit the Council's school admissions webpage.

Parents find out their child’s primary school on 16 April 2026. The national offer day where all applicants of secondary schools receive their offer of a place is on 2 March 2026.
