Hundreds of visitors attended the all-day event, which offered information, advice, support and—most importantly—a chance for carers to take some time for themselves.

Organised by Trafford Carers Centre and supported by Trafford Council, the event brought together professionals from across health, social care, community and voluntary services to recognise the vital role carers play and to highlight the help available to them.

The annual event, celebrated across the UK, is a key part of Trafford's Carers Partnership activity, which raises awareness of the challenges unpaid carers face. In Trafford, around 18,000 residents provide unpaid care for a partner, family member, friend or neighbour—and Trafford Carers Centre believes the true figure could be even higher.

Michelle Grogan, Chief Executive of Trafford Carers Centre, said:

“It’s wonderful that we have so many unpaid carers in Trafford who are engaging with us. However, we know there are still many people looking after someone who are not accessing support. Caring for a loved one can be challenging, but help is available. That’s why we want carers to come forward, get in touch, and why Carers Rights Day is such a special event.”

Visitors explored a marketplace of local and national support organisations, including health, wellbeing and financial advice services. There were workshops on legal planning, energy guidance and navigating the care system, alongside lighter activities such as wellness sessions, hand massages and even a laughter yoga class.

Special guests included the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Jane Brophy, and Consort John Brophy. Attendees also enjoyed the chance to meet Cinnamon, a service and mobility guide dog.

Cllr Jane Slater, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy and Independent Lives, said:

“Trafford’s unpaid carers do an amazing job. They work selflessly and tirelessly to look after someone they love who depends on them. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do, and we are fortunate to have organisations like Trafford Carers Centre offering such valuable support. Carers Rights Day was a huge success, and we hope even more carers will come forward and engage with services as a result.”
