Trafford Council is set to step up enforcement of illegal and unsafe parking among motorists heading to Manchester United games.
Civil Enforcement Officers are expected to issue more fines more regularly – meaning those who break the rules can be almost certain to expect a £70 fine.
Inconsiderate parking has been leading to increasing instances of blocked emergency routes, traffic congestion, nuisance for residents, damaged kerbs and reduced visibility to people crossing roads.
The Council has released a gallery of photos of recent bad behaviour in a bit to encourage people to see sense and ideally leave their car at home, or at a park and ride facility.
Many thousands of families and friend groups who struggle to park properly would find it easier and cheaper to take the bus or tram – or even walk or cycle to the game.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services, said:
“Our officers have been monitoring the situation on matchdays and sadly illegal and unsafe parking remains an issue.
“We have civil enforcement officers on patrol before, during and after games, as well as capturing CCTV footage of our A56 red route and red route clearway.
“Ideally we would love to issue no fines at all, and for all match goers to park legally, safely and considerately, or better still, to travel by public transport if possible.”
