Two traders have been fined by magistrates following prosecutions brought by Trafford Council for street trading without the appropriate licence.
The cases followed activity by Trafford Council licensing enforcement officers at major sporting events in the borough.
Mr Iliyas Hussain, 50, of Heath Green Road, Birmingham, was seen selling hats, scarves and other goods near Lancashire County Cricket Club on Thursday 24 July 2025, when the England v India test match was taking place. He was seen trading again the following day and produced an expired pedlar’s certificate.
He was then observed with his stall on Sunday 17 August 2025, when the area was busy with sports fans attending cricket and football fixtures. Mr Hussain pleaded guilty and was fined £120 with £48 in surcharges and £436 in costs, totalling £604.
Mr Raymond Holland, 61, of Mill Hill Caravan Park, Bolton, was prosecuted after selling souvenir goods on Sir Matt Busby Way before a Manchester United match on Sunday 11 January this year. His licence did not authorise him to establish a street trading pitch. Mr Holland pleaded guilty and was fined £80 with £32 surcharges and £325 costs.
Mr Hussain’s case was heard at Manchester Magistrates Court on 24 July and Mr Holland’s case was heard at Wigan Magistrates Court on 17 July.
