Trafford Council will mark VJ Day with a short civic service and flag-raising ceremony at Trafford Town Hall on Friday 15 August.
The event, which marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in the Pacific and effectively the close of World War Two, will take place in the Sunken Garden at the Town Hall to coincide with the national two-minute silence at 12 noon.
Leader of Trafford Council, Cllr Tom Ross, will lead the ceremony and will be joined by Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Jane Brophy, representatives from the Armed Forces and veterans’ community, and other guests.
Cllr Ross said:
“This event is an opportunity for us all to reflect on the enormous sacrifice made by those who served in the Far East during World War Two. It is a chance for us to honour their courage and celebrate their legacy.”
Residents are invited to attend the ceremony or to observe the national two-minute silence at 12 noon, wherever they are.
