Public Health officials in Trafford are urging residents to book their winter vaccinations as soon as possible, with flu circulating earlier than usual this year.
The message is - getting vaccinated now offers the best protection ahead of the traditional winter peak, when viruses spread more easily and pressures on the NHS increase.
A wide range of appointments are available across Trafford and Greater Manchester, with GP practices, community clinics and local pharmacies offering convenient ways for people to get their flu or COVID-19 vaccinations. Many residents will also be able to book through the NHS App or online.
Whist everyone should consider having a flu vaccination, the priority groups who will be able to get one for free, are:
Trafford Council’s Director of Public Health, Helen Gollins, said:
“We would urge anyone in these groups to come forward now, so they are fully protected ahead of the usual flu season peak in the winter months. Ensuring you get your vaccinations not only protects you but can prevent the spread of the illness to others around you, including family members and friends. By getting your vaccination you will be helping to protect the community, especially those at most risk such as the very young or very old, people with underlying health conditions or weakened immune systems."
Children can also receive the flu vaccine, either through school immunisation teams or by appointment for two and three-year-olds. Parents are being asked to return consent forms promptly to ensure children are protected ahead of the Christmas holidays.
COVID-19 vaccinations continue to be offered to older adult care home residents, people aged 75 and over, and those who are immunosuppressed. Some people will be eligible for both flu and COVID-19 vaccines and may be able to receive them in the same appointment.
