Trafford Council took on fly tippers and litter bugs during a successful week of action to clean up several grot spots in the borough.
The Council’s environmental improvement officers and partners shifted rubbish dumped at various sites across the Partington area in last week’s targeted action.
The teams also installed secret cameras at a number of fly tipping hot spots in the area, gave warnings to dog owners who were allowing their pets to foul on paths and in parks and sent offenders out to pick up rubbish as part of the community payback scheme.
Work also took place to clear roads and gullies, identify and report untidy gardens, abandoned vehicles, contaminated bins and to organise community litter picks with residents and pupils from Partington Central Academy. The team also provided skips for residents to clear unwanted rubbish and garden waste and visited local businesses to ensure they are disposing of commercial waste correctly.
The Council is totally committed to improving the environment for residents and is planning to target other areas of Trafford as part of the environmental improvement campaign.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services, said:
“This week of action was carried out to improve the area for residents and that is exactly what we have achieved. Apart from removing dozens of bags of rubbish and fly tipped materials, we have shifted dumped cars and taken action on dog fouling, overgrown gardens, and blocked drains and roads.
“We are committed to improving the environment across Trafford and will not stop until we have achieved our aims. This Council will not tolerate fly tipping or littering in any shape or form and we will do everything possible to catch those responsible. Our secret cameras will catch fly tippers in action and we will take them to court and prosecute them. It’s as simple as that.”
During the week of action, environmental improvement officers teams up with the waste minimisation team, parking services, the Parish Council, street cleaning teams, the parks department, Your Housing Group, tree surgeons and Partington Central Academy.
