Trafford Council has submitted a planning application for the revamp of a synthetic five-a-side football pitch at Old Trafford Sports Barn.
The development is set to involve a new playing surface, an extension to the north, LED floodlights, new fencing, storage and a spectator area.
Labosport Ltd is the project consultant and planning agent for the refurbishment, which is designed to ensure that the facility is sustainable for the future and will provide maximum benefit to the community.
The improved pitch is intended to meet Football Association and national and international sports governing body performance requirements.
The plan, detailed on the Council website, forms part of a wider programme of improvements ahead of the proposed transfer of the Council-owned sports barn to a new operator, Old Trafford Community and Sports Hub, to support the site's long-term sustainability, success and accessibility for local people.
Following the transfer, the facility will be renamed Seymour Activity Hub. The new management organisation can be contacted at hello@seymouractivityhub.org.uk.
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:
“The Council is committed to improving local sports and community infrastructure across the borough and the refurbishment is part of an ongoing programme to achieve this.
“The Council’s priorities include facilitating healthy lives for our residents, providing the best start for children and young people, and ensuring access to sport for all, and this initiative ties in with all of those intentions.”
