The fourth biggest marathon in Europe after London, Paris and Berlin takes place this Sunday 19 April.
Excitement is building for the 2026 adidas Manchester Marathon where 42,000 participants will gather on the start line, ready to take on the iconic 26.2 mile ‘flat and friendly’ challenge.
The event – bigger than marathons in Stockholm, Athens, Prague and Amsterdam – begins in Stretford as usual at White City roundabout, before heading into Manchester.
Most of the route is in Trafford, taking in Sale, Timperley, Altrincham and Sale Moor before the finish outside Manchester University. The flat route encourages elite runners to take part and go for personal best times.
Spectators can view a route map online and get guidance on good vantage points along the way. Meanwhile information and advice on public transport and road closures is detailed on the Transport for Greater Manchester website.
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:
“This is a great sporting event for our borough and a fantastic opportunity for local people to go along, cheer on the athletes and enjoy the big day atmosphere – often close to their own front door!
“Many thousands of pounds will be raised for charities and good causes – and all manner of businesses in Trafford will benefit from the considerable, extra footfall.”
The Marathon’s Community Fund donates more than £60,000 each year to 70 groups across the city that promote active lifestyles.
Trafford Council is working with organisers to make sure disruption is minimised but people are urged to be mindful of timings, road closures and changes to public transport if they are planning to travel that day.
