Trafford residents are top recyclers, say new statistics
Latest national recycling statistics show Trafford people continue be careful about what goes in which bin – and try to minimise overall waste volumes.
Latest national recycling statistics show Trafford people continue be careful about what goes in which bin – and try to minimise overall waste volumes.
According to UK Government figures, Trafford demonstrates the second best recycling figures of the 10 borough councils in Greater Manchester and ranks 21st nationally, among 321 local authorities.
In total, households are discarding 14% less recycling and residual waste in Trafford than a decade ago, compared with Greater Manchester’s average decrease of 1%.
Trafford has long held an excellent reputation nationally for recycling – and this success is testament to residents’ good habits and environmental awareness.
Trafford’s waste collections are handled by the One Trafford partnership between the Council and Amey and residents can see detailed lists of what should go in each bin, on the Council website.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services, said:
“There are a number of reasons why Trafford fares well and is comfortably within the top 10% of the most successful recycling local authority areas nationally.
“The people who live here are conscientious about their bins and this is supported by outside factors that make it easier to keep waste to a minimum.“For example, supermarkets and manufacturers are using less packaging and fewer foods and drinks are routinely sold in heavy glass jars and bottles.
“We thank everyone who plays a part in the borough’s good performance in waste management as we look to carry on improving.”
New developments include the introduction of food waste collections to flats this year, currently being rolled out.
